Fire Safety Legislation changed on 1st October with the introduction of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The Fire Precautions Act 1971 and The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 (as amended) were repealed along with 100 plus local by-laws and fire safety laws.

Fire Safety has been removed from the general health and safety arena to become a discipline to be enforced, monitored and controlled by fire safety professionals, which should have always been the case. For all responsible persons the objective is for all premises that come within the Order to comply with the provisions and to improve standards by good Fire Safety Management.

For new buildings and extension to existing buildings The Building Regulations apply and necessary applications must be made for proposals to be approved.
